History

Sigma Phi Omega was founded in 1949 at the University of Southern California amidst lingering anti-Asian sentiment left behind by World War II. "At that time, it was understood that Asian women could not become members of a sorority. It has since changed. Thank goodness."

Chapter History

The Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Phi Omega was founded at the University of Houston in 1995. Our chapter is dedicated to promoting sisterhood, giving back to the community, and building strong bonds with other organizations on campus. We have consistently won awards for "Most Outstanding Community Service" and "Highest G.P.A.". As founding members of the University of Houston's Multicultural Greek Council, we work closely with a variety of other organizations. Our chapter prides itself for its diversity in membership as we embrace the unique qualities and gifts each
sister brings. We also pride ourselves on being members of the only recognized Tri-Family organization on campus. Each semester, we work closely with our brother fraternity, Omega Phi Gamma, and our cousin fraternity, Delta Epsilon Psi, at social and service events.
